Background: 

Dependence on climatic conditions makes the agricultural sector in Guinea-Bissau very sensitive to climatic extremes. Access to climate information and agroecological practices is important for the development of Climate Adapted Agriculture and environmental conservation, in a manner that is truly adapted and resilient to climate change.

Objectives: 

Contribute to the development of a terrestrial ecosystem management model capable of improving the income of farmers and communities in the Urok Islands.

Expected Results: 
  • The farmers of Urok adopt techniques and production systems better adapted to climate change, in their production processes.
  • Proposal for participatory territorial management on all the Urok Islands (Formosa, Nago and Chediã).
  • Establishment of a climate forecasting service within the framework of a partnership between the research institutions of Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) and the National Institute of Meteorology of Guinea-Bissau (INM-GB).
