Agricultural Productivity and Competitiveness in West Africa

West Africa has great potential for accelerating economic growth, and for developing the agro-forestry-pastoral and fisheries sector. This potential and productivity gains mean a source of improved competitiveness, which is one of the surest ways to food availability and a source of foreign currency. Together, they constitute one of the main levers for successful economic and social integration at the regional level.

To achieve this, it is still necessary to enhance among other things:

  • the promotion of a conducive environment for financing the sector with strong involvement of the private sector and financial/banking institutions, and
  • the processing and promotion of local agricultural products.
