ECOWAS Avails 2,856 Tons of Cereals to the Malian Government

This July 30, 2019, the Government of Mali received, upon its request, 2,856 tons of cereals, of which 202 tons of white maize and 302 tons of white rice stored in Bamako and 2,352 tons of white rice stored in Koutiala, all in the warehouses of the Office des Produits Agricoles du Mali (Opam.

This intervention by ECOWAS brings to 21, 437 tons of cereals locally purchased from small producers and mobilized in one year for the benefit of the requesting Member States under the Regional Food Security Reserve for a financial envelope of more than 7 billion CFAF.

According to the Malian Minister for African Integration, Mr. Baber Gano, who received the food grains from the hands of Mr. Sékou Sangaré, ECOWAS Commissioner for Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources, these food grains of the Regional Reserve timely come to support Mali in the implementation of its Operation Plan of its 2019 National Food Security.
