ECOWAS Commission Vice-President pays a courtesy Call to the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF)

The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Her Excellency Ms. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, paid a courtesy call on RAAF this afternoon of 12 October 2022. The visit enabled her to interact with the RAAF staff and to discuss the activities of the Agency and the challenges it faces.

From the presentation made by the RAAF team, it emerged that, so far, RAAF has coordinated the implementation of about twenty regional projects of over USD 300 million. These projects cover various intervention areas such as food security, resilience, social safety nets, climate change, livestock and marketing of agroforestry and fisheries products. From these regional projects, nearly one hundred field projects have been selected following calls for project proposals. Field projects are implemented across Member States with a view to testing and identifying good farming and pastoral practices towards scaling them up at both national and regional level.

Vice-President Tchintchibidja congratulated RAAF staff for such tangible results on the field and urged them for commitment and visibility of all the actions being carried out in the Member States for the benefit of the populations. She assured RAAF of her commitment to advocate with the countries and ECOWAS statutory bodies to facilitate the implementation of the RAAF mandate, which is to ensure technical execution of regional programmes and investment plans contributing to the operationalisation of the Regional Agricultural Policy by relying on regional institutions, organisations and actors with proven expertise.
