ECOWAS Commissioner for Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources Visits the Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger

Taking advantage of his stay in Niamey since yesterday, September 9, 2021, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources, Mr Sekou Sangaré, paid a courtesy visit, this Friday morning of September 10, 2021, to His Excellency, Mr. Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger.

Commissioner Sangaré briefed the Prime Minister on the purpose of his presence in Niger, which is, among other things, to (i) avail, tomorrow 11 September 2021, 7,598 tons of food grains to the Government of Niger to address the difficult food situation of the most vulnerable households, (ii) launch, on Monday 13 September 2021, two field projects on the development of the livestock and meat industry, (iii) discuss with the Ministry of Hydraulics on a project to construct water boreholes in Maradi, and (iv) review other matters of common interest for the ECOWAS Department of Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources and the relevant authorities of the Government of Niger.

Before availing himself to answer questions from the media invited to the courtesy visit, Commissioner Sangaré also requested the support of the Prime Minister for customs exemption of food grains from the ECOWAS Regional Food Security Reserve to be stored in the warehouses of the Office des Produits Vivriers du Niger (OPVN).)
