Fertilisers and Soil Health in West Africa: A High-Level Round Table opens in Lomé to restrategize the sector

A high-level round table on fertilisers and soil health in West Africa and the Sahel opened this morning in Lomé at Hôtel 2 février under the co-leadership of the Presidency of the Republic of Togo and the ECOWAS Commission.

The meeting, which brings together the region's decision-makers, especially agriculture and finance ministers and technical and financial partners, will unfold from 30 to 31 May 2023 with the support of the World Bank Group and the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC). It will provide an opportunity to participants and stakeholders to agree on a common roadmap for reforms and investments towards increasing fertilisers availability and affordability in the region.

At the end of the two-days discussions, is also expected a Declaration called Lomé Declaration on Fertilizers and Soil Health in West Africa and the Sahel, which will further commit governments to efforts to boost soil health and hence food and nutrition security in the region.
