Implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement in West Africa: Situational Assessment of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Capacity Building Needs

Launched in the Summer of 2018, the initial diagnosis of the GCCA+AO Project on the implementation of the Paris Agreement in West Africa presents a regional overview of the impacts related to climate change and the 17 NDCs in the region (Cilss-Ecowas Space).

From the institutional, technical and financial obstacles encountered by the countries in the implementation of these commitments, to the identification of capacity building needs expressed by the latter, the report proposes a reading guide to define the regional priority actions, and highlights the key role that Ecowas can play in the process.

Introduced by a committed preface by Mr. Sékou Sangaré, Commissioner for Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources of the Ecowas Commission, the report will certainly serve as a basis for launching a regional climate strategy, in response to the Commissioner's call "to act together to address the climate emergency in the framework of regional solidarity to enable the region to reduce its vulnerability".
