Youth Employability in the Agro-sylvo-pastoral and Fisheries Sector: Regional Professional Organizations (RPOs) and ECOWAS move towards a Regional Strategy

In West Africa, youth employability in the various economic sectors in general and in the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries sector in particular is a crucial issue. The demographic context, the economic situation and the particular situation of the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries sector of the region make the issue of youth employability more complex than elsewhere.

To address this scourge and within the framework of the financial support of the Swiss Cooperation, lthe regional professional organizations (ROPPA, APESS, RBM) and ECOWAS met on September 14, 2018 in Lomé, Togo, to discuss the terms of reference for the organization of a regional workshop aimed at sharing experiences and initiatives on youth employability in the agro-sylvo- pastoral and fisheries sector by the end of 2018. In addition, the concept note on the youth employability strategy in the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries sector in West Africa was presented and adopted. Hub Rural that leads the facilitation of this process, has pledged to work on these documents on time in order to make the organization of the regional workshop possible before the end of the year as agreed.
