The livestock sector is underdeveloped in Chad's Mayo-Kebbi East and West provinces. Livestock farming is family-based and serves as a means of agricultural labour for most farmers.
With an average household size of 7 to 15 head, the challenges facing the livestock sector include:
- the lack of feed production
- the low level of structuring of stakeholders
- the lack of innovation in family livestock farming
- difficult access to veterinary care
This project is designed to meet these challenges.
The relevance of this project, carried out by the NGO "Les zones et les actions de lutte - Tchad", is demonstrated by its concept, which is based on the involvement of farmers' organizations, in particular those of young people and women, support for family livestock rearing with the introduction of new cow and sire species, fodder production and the processing of local milk-based products. It is an instrument for operationalizing the challenges facing the livestock sector in the Sahel and the employability of young people in the local milk sector.
To increase opportunities for decent, well-paid jobs for young people and women seeking work.
Specific objective
The intervention strategy adopted is based on an inter-provincial, participatory and empowering approach, drawing on learning and collaboration between the organizations and institutions involved in the action.
