In Senegal, agriculture is an important economic sector, contributing a significant share of GDP. Livestock farming, which is closely linked to agriculture, is also a wealth-creating sector. However, it is highly vulnerable to climate change, which is encouraging rural depopulation, particularly of young people, and the economic collapse of the regions where the activity is practiced. In order to ensure food and nutritional security, the dairy industry has an important role to play, given the number of young people and women involved. This is why an intervention is needed to strengthen the milk chain, by coupling it with fodder production and job creation for women and young people. The proposed project addresses the problem of the vulnerability of family livestock farms in Senegal in the face of multiple constraints.
This project aims to build a strong and sustainable alliance between entities operating in the dairy value chain, and to undertake joint actions to strengthen the value chain. It will improve Dairy and Livestock Feed Production for the Creation of Jobs for Young People in the Thiès and Fatick Regions (APLABEJ). It aims to combine stabling through agropastoral farms, enhance the value of milk-producing family farms and develop fodder crops.
To create a favorable environment for increasing dairy production (animals, fodder) in order to offer job opportunities for young people.
